I had already taken some writing courses. I had articles published in small magazines. I enjoyed writing.
But then in August 2014 I had my first book idea.
The book idea was nonfiction like the articles I had already written, but this time I would write for children. I researched for my manuscript and learned more about the publishing world. The following year I attended my first writing conference. And boy, was I hooked!
It was at the conference that I met some incredible people including authors I still admire and read. I also learned about writing for the educational market--the publishing world's best kept secret. And I met my first book editor.
Later, I wanted a place to share what children's writers need to know. And I wanted to have resources for teachers, too. So I began blogging here. I try to share something once or twice a month. Deadlines can interrupt that though.
I've had a few deadlines since then. Currently, I have 13 books published with five different publishers. More books are on the way. Chomp! The Truth About Sharks releases on October 15. I'll announce the next book in the series in the fall though if you've been in any of my recent writing workshops, you already know.
Currently I'm working on a project with multiple tight deadlines as my children prepare to return to school. Life is crazy!
