Recently as I was preparing to teach a professional development workshop for teachers. I planned to recommend they use author's teacher guides as a way to celebrate curiosity in the classroom with nonfiction books. And I realized I didn't know of a source listing teacher guides specifically for nonfiction books.
Of course, if you are reading a book written for children or teens and you visit the author's website, there's an excellent chance you'll find a free teacher guide at their site. (Sometimes they're listed on publisher's sites instead.) But I also realized I could ask in my nonfiction group for links and topics. I love being able to connect readers, teachers, and authors together!
Here is a list of author names with links to their teacher guides. Please note, I have not read all of these books or the guides so providing links does not equate to an endorsement. Authors, if your guide isn't listed here, please tell us about it in the comments!

ReplyDeleteI have a lyrical insect picture book called The World Never Sleeps. My educator's guide includes various writing activities, including writing a class book with mini nature stories.
